Local Filmmaker Hosts Writing and Drawing Contest for Kids of All Ages in Conjunction with Montclair Film Festival
MONTCLAIR, NJ October 15, 2020 – “The Adventures of Theo’s Star” – an animated short film directed by Montclair resident Matthieu Silberstein and narrated by Martin Sheen – has been named as an official selection at the Montclair Film Festival 2020. To celebrate Theo's Star's visit to our corner of the world (and to have a little fun in a year that has been anything but!), we’re launching a drawing and writing contest for the children of Montclair and vicinity to win prizes from local businesses for the whole family.
“The Adventures of Theo’s Star” tells the story of a young star who, to fulfill his destiny, travels the Solar System to help a little boy cope with a childhood tragedy (Watch the trailer here).
In a nod to the story of the film, kids of all ages are invited to dig into their imagination and express their creativity, by either:
Drawing their own star in their favorite place on Earth, or
Writing a short story imagining how their own star would help them fulfill their most cherished dream.
The contest is supported by a slate of generous local partners including: FIAF Montclair, Faubourg, Hammer and Stain of Upper Montclair, JavaLove, Just Kidding Around, Le French Dad, Meditate Montclair and Watchung Booksellers, that are offering a range of prizes for contestants and their parents (yes parents, you also get your own reward!).
Every participant will receive a prize. In addition, six winners will be selected – 3 drawers and 3 writers – chosen by a jury of Montclair residents, educators and kids’ content professionals. The contest will run from October 17 – November 15, and winners will be announced no later than December 1st. Full prize descriptions and the rules of the contest can be found at theo-star.com/mff
“In a year where the film festival experience is so different, we wanted to come up with something different to still engage and have fun with the audience,” says Matthieu Silberstein, director of the film and organizer of the contest. “And if it can give my fellow parents something to do while they’re home with their kids and help promote local businesses in the process, then everybody wins!”
Viewers can discover the film, alongside 7 others wonderful short films, in the Shorts For All Ages program at the Montclair Film Festival Virtual Cinema from October 16th-25th (Tickets are $12 / $10 for members).
Watchung Booksellers will exclusively carry the book version of “The Adventures of Theo’s Star” for the duration of the festival and beyond.
